Laure Hirsig introduces “Zone” at Maison Saint-Gervais, drawing inspiration from the works of Louis Calaferte and Tarjei Vesaas. Nine exiled Afghan actresses and their director turn Sophocles’ Antigone into a luminous act of defiance, weaving their own flight from tyranny into a fluid chorus that moves between whispered poetry and blazing resolve; on a moon-lit set where shadows ripple across a reflective pool, their shared fervour collides with oppression’s darkness, conjuring a present-tense theatre of resistance performed in Dari (with French subtitles) that pulses with the courage, grace and unbroken spirit of women who refuse to fall silent.

Conceived in dialogue with the exhibition Le Chalet, this sensitive, poetic performance blends live music and movement to reimagine the idea of the Swiss chalet. Drummer Félix Bettems and mover Semina Rizou inhabit a compact, tactile universe where simple gestures and a spare score suggest memory, domesticity and gentle displacement. Created in residency with Studio 2 and the École de musique d’Étoy and developed alongside the Association pour le patrimoine industriel and Fab Lab Onl’fait, the piece feels intimate and quietly evocative.

Actor Samuel Labarthe turns Nicolas Bouvier’s fever-drenched memoir The Scorpion-Fish into a hypnotic, miniaturist tour de force: marooned in 1950s Ceylon after a headlong road trip from Geneva through the Balkans and Afghanistan, the once-ebullient traveller spirals into tropical delirium, trading human company for buzzing insects, mirage-bright visions and mordant humour that flits between the sublime and the grotesque. Under Catherine Schaub’s finely gauged direction, Labarthe channels both the lush lyricism and the slow-burn torment of this “motionless voyage,” distilling Bouvier’s languid prose into a tactile, rejuvenating elixir that lets the audience feel every bead of sweat, jolt of wonder and sting of isolation.

Directed by Bastien Blanchard, CANICULE is a first play that turns a scorching domestic scene into a comedic yet unsettling probe of consumerist happiness. Actors Nadim Ahmed, Estelle Benaïch, Danae Dario and Angelo Dell’Aquila shift between light banter and mounting unease as a repairman exposes fissures in a marriage. Cornélius Spaeter’s scenography, Marc Heinmendinger’s lighting and Ljubica Markovic’s costumes frame moments of heat, claustrophobia and ironic intimacy, touching on climate change and overconsumption with dry wit and emotional precision.
