Christmas Oratorio by J.S. Bach

The Cathedral of Geneva features three cantatas from J.S. Bach’s Christmas Oratorio, performed by the Ensemble Vocal Pierre de Lune and the Ensemble Instrumental Romand under Emmanuel Junod’s direction. Cantatas No. I, III, and VI depict the birth of Jesus, the adoration of the shepherds, and the visit of the Magi. Soloists Clémence Tilquin, Cristina Segura, Valério Contaldo, and Alexandre Beuchat will contribute to this concert, organized by the Fondation des Concerts de la Cathédrale.

“Bal Impérial – Boléro” seamlessly blends an imperial waltz with Ravel’s mesmerizing Boléro. Created by Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui and Damien Jalet, this work delves into the social and political roots of dance. Following his doctor’s advice to make a change, he enrolls in a disco dance class. There, a chance reunion with his old schoolmate Michaël stirs up past rivalries and awakens an unexpected competitive edge. Jean-François now dreams of redemption by winning the prestigious local dance event, the Night Cup.

Who hasn’t, as a child, woken up in the middle of the night, disoriented, surrounded by mysterious shapes that might be monsters—or maybe friends? “Bachibouzouk”, by the Philippe Saire Company, brings that in-between world to life, blending dance and object theatre in a poetic, twilight performance where imagination takes over once the lights go out.

To kick off the Les Créatives festival, Alhambra hosts a concert featuring Draga, a musical project inspired by Monique Wittig’s “Les Guérillères,” alongside the Swiss group Cocon Javel. Draga, comprising Lucie Antunes, Anna Mouglalis, P.R2B, Théodora Delilez, and Narumi Herisson, delivers an energetic performance fusing activist rock, krautrock, analog electro, and post-punk. Cocon Javel, recognized for their intense and transformative music, blends electronic, experimental, pop, and rock styles, with their debut EP set for release in early 2025.

The Ensemble Temenos with Chouchane Siranossian presents a concert dedicated to Jean-Féry Rebel at the Lutheran Church of Geneva. This program delves into the instrumental music of Rebel, a violinist with the King’s 24 Violins and a composer for the Royal Academy of Music, who was both a student and legacy-bearer of Lully. Featured are the Trio Sonata “La Flore”, the solo violin sonatas from Opus 2, and the Sonata No. 7 in C minor “Tombeau de Monsieur de Lully”. The performance highlights the fusion of French dance and Italian influence, celebrating Rebel’s discreet virtuosity and characteristic stylistic harmony.

The 133rd edition of Geneva’s iconic satirical show, La Revue Genevoise 2025, takes place at the Casino-Théâtre before its renovation. Blending musical comedy, songs, dance, and sharp humor, the Revue playfully revisits local, national, and international news. It promises a festive and witty evening to enjoy with friends, family, or colleagues, celebrating laughter, wonder, and the end of an era at the theater.
