Caribbean Tales and Islands

As part of the “Literate Figures of Oral Worlds” symposium and the “Afrosonica” exhibition, storyteller Dédé Duguet invites you on a journey through Caribbean tales, spanning from Cuba to Martinique, including Haiti and Trinidad. Using his “Tout-monde” storytelling staff, he will share captivating and enchanting stories. This event is organized in collaboration with the University of Geneva.

A powerful theatrical tribute to the legendary Geneva writer, painter, and sex worker Grisélidis Réal, based on her raw, visceral letters to Jean-Luc Hennig. Directed and adapted by Françoise Courvoisier—who previously brought Réal’s world to life in three earlier works—this intimate piece is set in the writer’s own kitchen, the heart of her confessions and creativity. Twenty years after her death, the play celebrates Réal’s fierce spirit and lyrical rage, honoring the woman who turned her life, her body, and her revolt into unforgettable literature.

Under the pseudonym No Anger, this artist and researcher delves into the theme of physical disability through a reflective piece that combines dance, text, videos, and music. The work offers a feminist and queer perspective on how social dynamics impact the personal stories of individuals with diverse bodies, showcasing the artist’s journey of breaking free from societal norms to recreate her identity.

Geneva Camerata presents Titane, a groundbreaking performance that reimagines Gustav Mahler’s Symphony No. 1, “Titan”, through an innovative fusion of music, dance, and theater. Renowned choreographer Marion Motin, known for her collaborations with Madonna and Stromae, joins the orchestra to create a world premiere where musicians perform from memory while engaging in dynamic choreography. This multidisciplinary spectacle offers a visceral and immersive experience, pushing the boundaries of classical concert presentation.
