Cuivres en Liberté presents a brass quintet exploring a vivid program of transcriptions and original arrangements by Leonard Bernstein, Dmitri Shostakovich, Øystein Baadsvik, Giuseppe Verdi and John Williams. Led by a spirited brass ensemble — Alexandre Faure, Matteo de Luca, Vincent Métrailler and Andrea Bandini on trombones, with Ross Knight on tuba — the performance balances lyrical warmth and razor-sharp virtuosity, moving from cinematic sweep to chamber-like intimacy and bold, rhythmic drive.
Performed by pianist Angela Yixuan Miao and conducted by Sergey Ostrovsky, this classical programme juxtaposes works by Béla Bartók, W. A. Mozart and Frédéric Chopin in a vivid, dramatic arc. Bartók’s Divertimento, Mozart’s Symphony No. 40 (KV 550) and Chopin’s Piano Concerto No. 1 (Op. 11) are presented with refined technique and expressive intensity, exploring contrasts between lyricism and tumult to create an immersive, emotionally charged concert experience.
