Théo Duboule (guitar, compositions), Noé Tavelli (drums, compositions) and Bänz Oester (double bass) form a daring Swiss jazz trio whose music blends Coltrane- and Hendrix-inspired improvisation with Afro-descendant rhythms. Their playing balances fiery energy and a taste for risk, moving between spacious lyricism and intense collective drive. Having impressed with Street Sight (Hout Records, 2022), they continue to expand their sound on the new album Isobar, recorded with Matthieu Michel, seeking a grounded yet intense expression.

Chekhov’s Ivanov follows Nikolai Ivanov, a middling Russian landowner crushed by debt and by the slow decline of his wife, Anna Petrovna, who is dying of tuberculosis. Across four acts, his inertia curdles into melancholy and self-destruction, swinging between biting comedy and harrowing despair. Written in a ten-day burst in 1887, when Chekhov was only twenty-seven, the play crackles with youthful urgency as tragedy and humor intertwine.

Director–actor Jean-François Sivadier infuses this new staging with his distinctive theatrical energy, pairing veteran performers with fresh faces to reignite the play’s original heat. Echoing Gustav Mahler’s dictum that “tradition is not the worship of ashes, but the preservation of fire,” the production seeks to keep Chekhov’s raw, combustible spirit blazing on today’s stage.

Led by pianist-composer Andrew Audiger, this new trio with guitarist Théo Duboule and drummer Valentin Liechti blends acoustic and electric textures across jazz, folk and soft rock. Audiger’s fluid piano and synth lines weave with Duboule’s guitar and Liechti’s nuanced rhythms to create a suspended, nostalgic atmosphere. The programme highlights his boundary-free approach and compositional subtlety, balancing open improvisation with melodic clarity and intimate sonic detail that lingers after each passage.

Based on the Jekyll myth, this theatrical adaptation examines metamorphosis as both physical and social, probing identity, gender and the boundary between good and male/female. Stark black-and-white staging and chiaroscuro lighting evoke twilight and old horror films, while a persistent, slicing fog thickens the atmosphere. The venerable Dr Jekyll’s unsettling experiments unfold in a late-19th-century London laboratory, and his circle is drawn into mounting anguish as transformations accelerate.

Curated by Frédéric Post and Sonia Perego, MOS ESPA offers an unplugged, immersive festival framed as a barefoot, cocoon-like listening experience. The program features performances by Léna Hiriartborde, Yann Leguay, Julian Sartorius, Pali Meursault and others, blending field recordings, amplified objects, acoustic traditions and electronic textures. Site-specific installations and wooden instruments crafted by a participating maker lend a handcrafted intimacy, while sparse lighting and spatialised sound create close, contemplative atmospheres that favour shared, intense musical moments.

Mos_Espa is a project best experienced barefoot, in socks, slippers, or leather boots. You will be asked to leave your shoes and phone in the cloakroom. For this edition without electricity, credit card payments will not be accepted; cash only.
