La Bâtie Festival — 50th Edition

La Bâtie celebrates its 50th edition with three weeks of dance, music, circus and theatre that bring our diverse community together. Open to everyone, the festival invites neighbours, artists and newcomers to share performances, conversations and communal experiences that strengthen local ties. This edition is shaped by new artistic director Stéphane Malfettes, with graphic collaboration from studio Pique-nique. Samir Kennedy and Sean Murray present “It’s got legs!!!!!!” at Maison Saint-Gervais. Their performance delves into economic, social, and intimate precarity by engaging with femininity, masculinity, liminal identities, and queer existentialism. Students present a series of performances showcasing pieces developed during the academic year. The programme includes solo and ensemble works across music, theatre and experimental forms, emphasising collaborative creation, stylistic exploration and stagecraft. Intimate presentations alternate with more elaborate stagings, highlighting movement, sound design and dramaturgy. The series offers a window on emerging talent and the diverse approaches fostered in the teaching environment.

5 – 6 June

Nina Azoulai delivers a funny, liberating solo show that explores the paths others plan for us and the routes we finally take. With sharp observational humour and candid storytelling, she revisits a life shaped by expectations — a steady job, a reliable partner, children — and the awkward, tender moments that followed when she chose differently. The piece blends intimate confession, precise comic timing and warm audience rapport to examine identity, family and reinvention.

26 May – 21 June

Join a citywide celebration of piano, music and community as an open-air project places playable pianos across Geneva. For 15 years the initiative has invited everyone to sit, play or listen, mixing spontaneous performances with a programme of short acoustic concerts in unexpected public settings. Instruments are freely accessible and many performances are announced only on the spot, creating shared, inclusive musical moments that bring neighbours and visitors together.

28 May – 7 June

Bold and poetic, “Insuline” is a powerful denouncement of virilist and heteronormative excesses. Combining the sharp words of Lou Lepori, the music of Marc Berman, and the performance of Cédric Leproust, this fiery recital challenges conventions and unspoken norms. This queer show, driven by tumultuous and subversive expression, celebrates a body that rejects imposed normality.

Friday 5 June, 17:00

Presented by Greta Gratos, Arboretum #32 brings together an eclectic programme of live performances by Ubuntu Live, AZAR, Ignat Khlobystin, Un coglione e due musicisti, El Flecha & Friends and FanzinoGE. The evening blends experimental sound, improvisation and collaborative energy, creating intimate moments and bold sonic contrasts. Visual identity by Manon Fourdrignier complements the performances, reinforcing a DIY, communal atmosphere focused on exploration and spontaneous interaction.
