La Bâtie Festival — 50th Edition

La Bâtie celebrates its 50th edition with three weeks of dance, music, circus and theatre that bring our diverse community together. Open to everyone, the festival invites neighbours, artists and newcomers to share performances, conversations and communal experiences that strengthen local ties. This edition is shaped by new artistic director Stéphane Malfettes, with graphic collaboration from studio Pique-nique. Beethoven Complete Works: The 16 String Quartets

The programme balances technical brilliance with reflective lyricism, guided by the discerning presence of patron Stéphane Lambiel and a jury of Emmanuelle Bertrand, Svetlana Makarova, Raphaël Merlin and Christian Chamorel. Rock on Stage Classic is an event offering musicians of all skill levels the chance to perform on stage, guided by André Schmid, the former lead singer of the Geneva band Ça va chier. Participants can perform solo, with their own accompanists, or be supported by a team of professional musicians.

Ivanov

Chekhov’s Ivanov follows Nikolai Ivanov, a middling Russian landowner crushed by debt and by the slow decline of his wife, Anna Petrovna, who is dying of tuberculosis. Across four acts, his inertia curdles into melancholy and self-destruction, swinging between biting comedy and harrowing despair. Written in a ten-day burst in 1887, when Chekhov was only twenty-seven, the play crackles with youthful urgency as tragedy and humor intertwine.

Director–actor Jean-François Sivadier infuses this new staging with his distinctive theatrical energy, pairing veteran performers with fresh faces to reignite the play’s original heat. Echoing Gustav Mahler’s dictum that “tradition is not the worship of ashes, but the preservation of fire,” the production seeks to keep Chekhov’s raw, combustible spirit blazing on today’s stage.

L'Abri

Victor Delétraz’s solo investigates image and the moving body across past, present and future, probing the vulnerability of human pursuits and the tension between hidden and visible. Video interweaves with choreography, found objects, light, sound and text to create a fragmented, anachronistic structure where multiple voices, at once comic, cartoony, political and dramatic, collide. The presentation, framed within the festival C’est déjà demain, emphasizes exploration and the beginnings of artistic form.
