Sunday Concerts by the Ponticello Association

The Sunday Concerts at Victoria Hall celebrate the works of Bartók, Brahms, Liszt, and Enescu, enriched by narrated excerpts from Nicolas Bouvier’s “The Way of the World” by Julie Depardieu. Around the melancholy misanthrope Micha, an ensemble confronts money, regret and incomprehension as frustrations and longings are amplified by summer heat and drink. The staging is at once filmic and theatrical, precise and emotionally porous.

Saturday 31 January, 21:00

Composed and sung by Emmanuelle Bonnet, this new quartet programme presents material from the album Prérie(s), released on her independent label Mousse Records after a 2024 debut on Unit Records. Joined by Yvonne Rogers (piano), Tabea Kind (double bass) and Lucas Zibulski (drums), the four musicians pursue timbral and textural discoveries, shaping a collective sound marked by playful nonchalance and subtle humour. The performance unfolds intimate, shifting atmospheres that deconstruct and reweave harmonies into delicate, expressive narratives.

Inspired by the accounts of women mountaineers, this performance intertwines mountaineering, feminism, and ecology. Two women, united against the elements, commemorate a vanished glacier, confronting fear and hope. The mountain emerges as a symbol of both endangered nature and the solidarity of humanity in need of rebuilding.

Staro slips, sneaks and interferes between genres, inhabiting a liminal space between rap and rock. His French-language, finely crafted and punchy lyrics draw listeners into an intimate, turbulent universe where melancholy dances with the fury of living. On stage he alternates restrained phrasing and explosive outbursts, shaping a raw, urgent sound that balances poetic precision with visceral energy. The performance feels both confessional and confrontational, leaving a lingering emotional charge.
