Since 2018, Swiss pianist Bernhard Ruchti has been delving into tempo in classical music, drawing on historical research related to Franz Liszt for his interpretations. His Swiss tour, “A Tempo,” highlights Beethoven’s monumental “Hammerklavier” sonata for pianoforte, performed in its nearly hour-long original timing. The program also features works by Liszt and a piano suite composed by Ruchti. As a composer and musicologist, Ruchti leads this unique project that reconsiders rhythm and time in classical music.
