Conductor Thierry Fischer will lead the Frank Martin Orchestra and the Lausanne Vocal Ensemble in performing “Et la vie l’emporta,” a poignant final work by Frank Martin, commissioned by Zyma for its 75th anniversary. This meditative triptych, drawing inspiration from themes of suffering and illness, incorporates texts by Maurice Zundel and Martin Luther. The program also features Vivaldi’s vibrant “Gloria” and Charles Ives’ “The Unanswered Question,” inviting audiences to reflect on the meaning of life.

“Bal Impérial – Boléro” seamlessly blends an imperial waltz with Ravel’s mesmerizing Boléro. Created by Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui and Damien Jalet, this work delves into the social and political roots of dance. The first segment, “Bal Impérial,” marks the bicentennial of Johann Strauss by juxtaposing Viennese music with Japanese percussion, all set in an evocative stage design and costumes by Tim Yip. The second segment, “Boléro,” revisits the 2013 choreography, presenting an intense, visceral dance to Ravel’s dramatic crescendo, enriched by artistic influences from Marina Abramović.
