Terre de Crète

Terre de Crète presents a photographic exploration of portraiture and its limits. The series transplants specimens of Cretan flora onto small mounds of earth, arranged and lit in a studio-register that evokes Irving Penn’s restrained still life. Through meticulous composition and tactile detail, the works probe the border between botanical study and human portrait, inviting reflection on staging, scale and the politics of representation.

Opening during the Nuit des Bains, Thursday 12 March, 18:00.

Mitchell Anderson presents a new edition and bodies of work examining the legacy of post‑war astronautics. Mixed‑media pieces employ encaustic, embroidery and hand‑written texts to interrogate the rocket as an icon that condenses both promise and violence, situating technological histories within intimate material registers.

Jean-Jacques Rousseau’s herbarium, compiled in the 1770s for the printer-bookseller Charles-Joseph Panckoucke, is presented through preserved pressed specimens, its original catalogue and related botanical publications. The historical collection combines scientific observation and aesthetic arrangement, revealing Enlightenment approaches to collecting, classification and the popularisation of plant study. Detailed notes and annotations illuminate Rousseau’s techniques and the materiality of specimens, inviting reflection on how personal curiosity and scholarly networks shaped early modern natural history.

The International Museum of the Red Cross and Red Crescent presents the first European solo exhibition of Guatemalan Maya Kaqchikel artist Angélica Serech (*1982). Using self-built looms and natural materials like corn husks and branches, her works explore resilience, repair, and the deep ties between textile traditions and humanitarian action.
