Cristian Mungiu’s intimate drama follows the Gheorghiu family, a devout Romanian–Norwegian couple who settle by a remote Norwegian fjord. As friendships with neighbours blossom and the children grow inseparable, a discovery at school upends their way of life. Mungiu observes faith, parental authority and communal scrutiny with precise, austere cinematography, letting silences and landscape carry moral tension. Winner of the Palme d’Or at Cannes 2026, the film unfolds as a measured study of belief, protection and isolation.
