Kurô Tanino’s latest theatrical project is a reimagining of the manga Dark Master by Caribu Marlei, which delves into themes of manipulation and control. Originally inspired by the manga, Tanino’s 2016 adaptation depicted a young man being guided and controlled by a chef through surveillance cameras. In his new version, Tanino explores the concept of subjugation, both voluntary and involuntary, through a Franco-Swiss cast and a futuristic setting where a group of outcasts lives in an apartment entirely controlled by artificial intelligence. A disembodied voice instructs them in even the simplest tasks, creating a dystopian atmosphere that critiques the growing influence of digital technologies on human relationships.
