The contemporary collection of the Musée Ariana has evolved significantly in recent years, increasingly intersecting with applied arts, design, and contemporary art. This exhibition is designed as a retrospective of works acquired from 2010 to 2024, often linked to the many contemporary exhibitions organized during this period. It reflects the forward-thinking approach of the museum’s scientific team, engaging with the current landscape of Swiss and international ceramics, in order to provide an overview of the development of the artistic scene in this field. This freedom, however, is always contingent on the generosity of a patron, as the museum does not have an acquisition budget.
Liberté conditionnelle reveals various ways in which this collection has been enriched, in areas such as sculpture, installation, and containers. Through its thematic distribution, the exhibition reflects the obsessions and diversity of current creation. This enrichment, driven by intuition, fosters original connections—whether formal, technical, or expressive—with the museum’s historic collections.
