Fondation Martin Bodmer is a heritage library and museum in Cologny dedicated to the preservation and study of written culture. It houses rare manuscripts, papyri, incunabula and early printed editions, supports research and public exhibitions, and serves as a key cultural repository documenting five millennia of writing and intellectual history.
Drawn from a lesser-known part of the Bodmer collections, this exhibition examines the art and history of illustrated children’s books. Focusing on the creative processes behind picture-making and narrative, it explores childhood, changing reading habits and the relationship between Swiss children’s literature and the natural world. A selection of rare and prestigious items from the holdings illuminates the visual language and cultural history of the genre, revealing how illustration, text and materiality shape young readers’ imaginative worlds.
Culture, curated weekly.
