Situated at the base of the Old Town, The Bibliothèque de la Cité is one of the city’s municipal libraries, featuring a substantial collection. Notably, it boasts a significant children’s section. The library is actively engaged in the community, regularly organizing a diverse range of events such as talks, exhibitions, performances, film screenings, and workshops.

11 January – 19 April

Organised by the Grand Théâtre de Genève, Bibliopéra presents a series of workshop-lectures that invite close listening and critical reflection on the operatic repertoire. Each session, led by artists and specialists (pianist, singer, musicologists), explores a focused theme or work: discovery of bel canto and Rossini’s L’Italiana in Algeri; an exploration of baroque repertoire (Castor & Pollux); a creative writing workshop inspired by L’Empereur Atlantis; and a critical discussion of Puccini’s Madame Butterfly. The format mixes performance, analysis and hands-on activity to deepen understanding of style, history and interpretation.

This monthly sharing circle invites participants to present short recommendations across books, comics, films, music and video games. Attendees exchange personal reflections, discuss themes, formats and emotional impact, and discover new titles through concise presentations and attentive listening. The format encourages community-driven cultural exploration, deepening appreciation for diverse media and fostering conversation about narrative, aesthetics and personal resonance. Suitable for those who wish to present or simply listen and be inspired.

18 and 25 March

This two‑afternoon workshop teaches upcycling and basic soldering as participants build creatures from recycled electronic components. Attendees learn soldering techniques, circuit basics and hands‑on assembly while developing personal narratives for their creations. The sessions explore how naming and classification shape our understanding of living forms, prompting reflection on taxonomy, creativity and the relationship between DIY practice, science and art.

Thursday 19 March, 19:00

Journalist Claire Eggermont introduces a documentary by Luc Marescot, focusing on Benki Piyako, the spiritual leader of the Asháninka, and his efforts to reforest the Amazon threatened by various destructive projects. Following the screening, Claire will discuss her personal experiences and connection with the forest, as well as her book “Guardians of the Forest – The Call of Indigenous Peoples.” This event, in partnership with the Green Film Festival, explores the relationship between ecology and awareness.

Thursday 26 March, 19:00

Madeleine Leclair presents a unique sound performance based on recordings from Borneo and other threatened forest environments. She creates a live mix using vinyl records from the International Archives of Popular Music at MEG and her personal collection, highlighting the acoustic richness of these habitats. This performance is a side event to the exhibition “SAUVAGES: behind the scenes of Claude Barras’s film.”

Sunday 29 March, 14:30

A family-friendly performance suitable, featuring author Valentine Goby and musician Xavier Llamas at the Bibliothèque de la Cité. Inspired by Sebastião Salgado’s ambitious reforestation project of the Mata Atlantica forest, this show highlights themes of determination and solidarity against deforestation. The production is enhanced by sounds and paintings, creating a magical atmosphere around the reading. It is presented alongside the exhibition “SAUVAGES, Behind the Scenes of Claude Barras’ Film.”

Kids ages 7 and up.
