Hanadi Zarka – Mahmoud Darwich Day

Syrian poet Hanadi Zarka, author of several Arabic poetry collections translated abroad, reflects on her writing practice and the resonances between her work and that of Mahmoud Darwich. Drawing on her recent international residency within the ICORN programme, she discusses her poetic process and trajectory before reading an unpublished poem translated for the occasion by Zina Maleh. The conversation will be held in Arabic with French interpretation by Asmae Ghailan.

Monsters of the City

Maison Rousseau

Thomas Flahaut, novelist and dramatist trained at the Swiss Literary Institute of Biel, has published several novels with Éditions de l’Olivier and poetry at Castor Astral.

This workshop builds a collective “Geneva Directory of Monsters”, mapping strange, dreamlike and horrific urban phenomena and imagining monsters that inhabit spaces of social violence. Participants will examine the hybrid zone between reality and the fantastic to explore how fiction can reveal urban tensions and make visible hidden forms of violence.

Breathing Lake Geneva into Song

Anna Desraux (actress–musician), Jeanne Mermet (engineer–musician) and Gabriel Cotte (limnologist and science communicator) combine performance, technical practice and aquatic science to guide participants.

Drawing on scientific data, the workshop investigates the lake’s breathing rhythms through guided breathing exercises, verb-based prompts and collaborative songwriting. Participants translate limnological patterns into poetic verbs and melodies, then develop lyrics and simple musical settings that reveal the lake’s vitality and temporal dynamics.

An interactive community festival marking five years of collaborative making and creative exchange. The program presents hands-on workshops (jewellery and wooden toy making, patchwork sewing), practical skateboarding sessions and contests, graffiti and collaborative mural painting, screenprinting, and live music. Participants explore craft techniques, collective artistic processes, and practical skills while artists and makers demonstrate methods and facilitate experiment-driven learning. The event examines how shared creative practices foster community networks and sustain local production.

The workshop examines Lake Geneva’s currents and prevailing winds through music and movement, inviting participants to become a drop of water and follow regional flows. It explores how wind-driven patterns shape circulation, fostering sensory understanding of limnological processes and collective motion.

Create Your Own Rousseau-Style Herbarium

This workshop explores the traditional process of assembling a herbarium specimen, inspired by Jean-Jacques Rousseau’s collections. Participants learn scientific techniques for pressing and mounting dried plants on old paper, practice botanical labelling and nomenclature, and select specimens to create a personal herbarium sheet. The session examines preservation methods, identification principles and the historical context of Rousseau’s approach, combining practical skills with scientific insight to produce a lasting botanical object.

Our Biodiversity: Memory game

This interactive memory challenge invites participants to test their memory while exploring practical ways to preserve biodiversity based on Geneva’s municipal strategy. Players match “before-and-after” images that illustrate individual and institutional actions, and each correct pair reveals concise information explaining the measure. The activity examines themes such as habitat restoration, species-friendly practices, urban greening and policy responses, helping participants understand the impact and rationale behind everyday and organisational conservation choices.
