Mitja Tušek – Avec Omega, Pomme, Haricot, Cornichon, Rien, Bouteille

Booking Required

Mitja Tušek presents two recent groups of paintings that probe the materiality of painting, the instability of the image and the fragility of identity. One series assembles clusters of faces emerging from dense pictorial fields; each face is built from nine black circles forming a compact pictorial ecosystem. The works emphasise surface, repetition and a sculptural use of paint. Tušek (b. 1961, Maribor) studied in Geneva and is based in Brussels; his work has been shown internationally since the 1990s and is held in major public collections.

Opening during the Nuit de Bains on Thursday 12 March at 18:00.

Out of the Blue brings together Norwegian ceramicist Heidi Bjørgan and textile artist Kari Dyrdal in a sustained dialogue between ceramics and woven textiles. Bjørgan reworks familiar jug and vessel archetypes until they appear melted or imploded, using multiple firings and distinctive glazes to expose cracks, shifts and unpredictable reactions. Dyrdal examines memory, pattern and structure through handwoven, hand‑dyed pieces that marry traditional craft with digital processes, yielding tactile and conceptual depth.

The Tender Buttons exhibition offers a multidisciplinary exploration centered on buttons, delving into their identity and historical significance. Swiss artist Jean-Philippe Kalonji presents a sensitive series of portrait drawings that probe identity, memory and human presence. Working mainly with graphite and water-based media, he renders subtle gestures and gazes that bridge inner life and outward expression. The works range from intimate, near-figurative studies to more spare, contemplative surfaces, employing contemporary drawing techniques to question how portraiture reveals emotion and history. The exhibition invites deliberate, close looking at the human figure.

12 March – 16 May

Architecture of Memories is a two-person exhibition by German artist Alina Frieske and Swiss artist Tobias Nussbaumer. Frieske reworks fragments of online imagery into digital collages that question image production and contemporary visual culture. Nussbaumer constructs layered virtual and architectural spaces through detailed pencil and ink drawings based on personal archives. Together their works probe how images configure memory, spatial perception and identity, juxtaposing digital fragmentation with meticulous draughtsmanship.

7 March – 16 August

Carlos Schwabe’s retrospective traces the symbolism and pictorial imagination that defined his practice. Trained in Geneva, Schwabe is celebrated for evocative book illustrations and ambitious pictorial compositions that blend allegory, myth and musical ideas. The exhibition presents paintings, illustrations and preparatory drawings drawn from public and private Swiss and French collections, exploring technique, materiality and the spiritual and literary currents that shaped his visual language around the turn of the twentieth century.

12 March – 1 May

May 1972 is an exhibition dedicated to Salvatore Emblema (Naples, 1929–2006), bringing together works produced between the late 1960s and the early 1980s. Across paintings, sculptures and installations, Emblema refines a conceptual language that interrogates materiality, form and temporality. The presentation highlights his experimental use of found materials, assemblage and reductive gestures, situating these works within postwar Italian avant‑garde practices and the artist’s evolving exploration of spatial and epistemic limits.
