Wider Than the Sky is an ambitious documentary by Valerio Jalongo that explores whether a collective use of artificial intelligence could help shape a more humane future. Blending science, poetry and art, the film moves beyond algorithms and technological hype to question what truly defines us as human, and is followed by a discussion with the director, researcher Paola Merlo (IDIAP) and podcaster Grégoire Barbey, in collaboration with IDIAP and CERN.

Formerly an engineer, Carruth applies clinical rigor to a story about four suburban inventors; when Aaron and Abe discover that their mass‑reducing device can send them into the near past, timelines and trust fracture. The film’s austere textures, precise rhythms and intellectual tension create a disorienting, cerebral atmosphere where small technical details carry heavy moral and emotional weight.
