The Awakening of the Sound Archives #31: DJ Ras Mali Spins the Records

The invited artists take us on a musical journey with their personal selections during the Afrosonica – Soundscapes set. The records played are from the Marco Botta collection, acquired by the MEG, featuring nearly 5,000 LPs from the 1960s and 70s. Ras Mali, a renowned collector of African music and host of the Diaraby Show on Radio Usine, offers an energetic DJ set that spans genres from coupé-décalé to soukous and afrobeat.

7 – 19 October

The play “Five Days in March” by Toshiki Okada, directed by Nadim Ahmed, captures the lives of young Tokyoites in March 2003 against the backdrop of the Iraq War. A couple randomly meets and isolates themselves in a love hotel, while other aimless characters drift nearby, preoccupied with their everyday lives and uncertainties. This play portrays a generation caught between carefree living and a sense of powerlessness in the face of historical events.

15 – 19 October

The Gurtner/Bovay/Gremaud collective showcases “La Magnificité” at Maison Saint-Gervais. This trio, consisting of Michèle Gurtner, Tiphanie Bovay-Klameth, and François Gremaud, performs a series of lively and absurd sketches that highlight a playful and purposeless blend of gestures and dialogue. Combining elements of automatic writing, surrealist games, and improvisation, their performance is naive, poetic, tender, and most importantly, hilariously engaging.

14 – 26 October

“Neolithica, the Great Secret” is a parable exploring the emergence of power and sedentism during the Neolithic era. The performance delves into the hierarchies and violence that arose in that period. Produced by Théâtre de Carouge and directed by Dominique Ziegler, the play examines technical, cultural, political, religious, and social transformations. Supported by the City of Geneva, this production invites a collective reflection on the roots of modern human issues.

Kids ages 10 and up.

17 – 19 October

Globale Locale unites 12 emblematic nightlife venues across Geneva for three days of concerts, DJ sets, and cultural happenings that spotlight the city’s independent scene. Celebrating local talent and alternative culture while standing against the precarity of the arts, the festival offers everything from live bands to club nights, offbeat activities, and solidarity events—an energizing mix where partying becomes a collective, political act of support.
