Abracadabra

“Abracadabra” is a workshop-performance for children, offered by the Grand Théâtre de Genève. Led by Maud Bessard-Morandas or Aurélie Brémond, it tells the tale of a kind witch with a love for singing who, with the help of the children and her apprentice, seeks to revive the magic in the theater. Participants are introduced to opera through magical spells and playful interactions, all set to the music of composers such as Purcell, Offenbach, Mozart, and Grieg.

For adult beginners and near-beginners: This workshop invites you to discover the fundamentals of this ancient game and to improve through hands-on practice and learning of key openings and themes.

For children aged 4 to 13, divided into three groups based on age and experience: Young beginners (ages 4–6) will learn the rules of the game. Near-beginners will begin to spot checkmates and explore tactical combinations. Older or more experienced children will deepen their tactical and strategic understanding. Each child will receive an exercise booklet tailored to their level, allowing them to track their progress and continue learning beyond the workshop.
