Insuline

Bold and poetic, “Insuline” is a powerful denouncement of virilist and heteronormative excesses. Combining the sharp words of Lou Lepori, the music of Marc Berman, and the performance of Cédric Leproust, this fiery recital challenges conventions and unspoken norms. This queer show, driven by tumultuous and subversive expression, celebrates a body that rejects imposed normality.

Choreographed by Riccardo Ardusso with supervision by Ilaria Giardina, this Swiss premiere fuses contemporary dance and modern orchestral repertoire. Renowned Ensemble Sinfonietta Bern anchors the programme with music from 20th and 21st‑century composers, while Ardusso’s choreography translates sonic textures into sculpted movement. The creative approach blends lyrical neoclassical vocabulary with contemporary gestures, framed by immersive lighting and sound design that shape shifting moods. The result is a tactile, introspective evening where music and bodies coalesce into a new perception of neoclassical language.

About the play
1942. France is under occupation. Seven friends gather to celebrate Sophie’s birthday—until two German officers are shot beneath their windows. Kaubach, a Nazi commander, forces the guests to make an unthinkable choice: to designate two hostages among themselves.
Thus begins a harrowing struggle for survival. By confronting the depths of human nature, the play invites us to question which side we would have chosen.

Cellist-composer Séverine Ballon shapes her work through collaborative encounters, letting meaning emerge from shared time and exchange. Ensemble Vide presents a new orchestration of Siffler, rêver, a modular score for an orchestra of young musicians that anchors the programme. Performed with Orchestre Juventutti and students from Geneva conservatories and music schools, the evening blends Ballon’s chamber textures, open forms and attentive interplay into a luminous, immersive experience for performers and listeners.

The project is organised by Ensemble Vide, an interdisciplinary platform for contemporary music and artistic research.

21 April – 10 May

Chekhov’s Ivanov follows Nikolai Ivanov, a middling Russian landowner crushed by debt and by the slow decline of his wife, Anna Petrovna, who is dying of tuberculosis. Across four acts, his inertia curdles into melancholy and self-destruction, swinging between biting comedy and harrowing despair. Written in a ten-day burst in 1887, when Chekhov was only twenty-seven, the play crackles with youthful urgency as tragedy and humor intertwine.

Director–actor Jean-François Sivadier infuses this new staging with his distinctive theatrical energy, pairing veteran performers with fresh faces to reignite the play’s original heat. Echoing Gustav Mahler’s dictum that “tradition is not the worship of ashes, but the preservation of fire,” the production seeks to keep Chekhov’s raw, combustible spirit blazing on today’s stage.
