Recluses Fest #8: Elmer Food Beat + No One is Innocent + CardiaC

Recluses Fest #8 returns to the Alhambra, delivering an energetic celebration of punk rock and metal. This lively edition features six bands, including the legendary Elmer Food Beat known for their upbeat lyrics, the politically charged rock of No One is Innocent, and Geneva’s own CardiaC with their hardcore metal fusion. A portion of ticket sales will be donated to “Hardcore Hits Cancer,” supporting children battling cancer, making every entry a gesture of solidarity.

Matthieu Baumann’s “Grésil Incandescent – Lumière Révolues” transforms obsolete theater projectors into an organic musical instrument, giving new life to discarded incandescent lighting equipment. Using 12 PAR reflectors, piezos, and speakers, the installation invites audiences to experience the unique combination of sound, light, and heat generated by these repurposed fixtures. This multisensory work explores the tension between technological evolution and nostalgia, creating an immersive environment that challenges conventional theater equipment usage.

The captivating story of Élise Müller, better known as Hélène Smith, a renowned Geneva medium, and her relationship with psychology professor Théodore Flournoy unfolds in a compelling play. Celebrated for her spiritual journeys and gift of glossolalia, Élise navigates parallel worlds and alien languages. Fascinated by her talents, Flournoy attends her sessions and publishes an essay on her experiences, unaware of his crucial role in her visions. The play delves into their complex platonic relationship, defying the constraints of a rigid society, highlighting Élise’s quest for freedom and recognition through her mediumship.

The Festival Les Inoubliables, in collaboration with the Orchestre de Chambre de Genève (OCG), celebrates distinguished female composers with a closing gala concert. Under the baton of Nikita Sorokine, and featuring the vocal talents of Amadi Lagha, Amelia Feuer, along with violinist Esther Abrami, the event highlights the works of Ethel Smyth, Augusta Holmès, and Ina Boyle. Julie Conti will add a touch of humor to this evening dedicated to the power of female orchestral and vocal music. The concert concludes with the jazzy melodies of Blossom Dearie, emphasizing the historical significance of women composers in the realm of symphonic repertoire.
