This exhibition delves into the pursuit of lightness within Japanese culture, as illustrated by Uehara Michiko, a prominent figure in textile arts. Inspired by the landscapes of print masters and motifs from the Alfred Baur collection, founder of the museum of East Asian art, the exhibition celebrates the virtuosity of weaving and dyeing from Okinawa. Uehara Michiko’s work, with her delicate and lightweight fabrics that resemble a dragonfly’s wing, evokes a symbiosis with natural fibers and a harmonious quest between humanity, earth, and sky.
