Discovering Orchestral Instruments

Two musicians from the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande introduce their instruments and share professional insights into technique, repertoire and their role within the orchestra.

The session explores each instrument’s construction, sound characteristics and historical development, examining how these elements shape orchestral textures. Participants will discover key themes in instrument design and performance practice, and are invited to handle and try selected instruments to connect tactile experience with musical understanding.
