Located in the heart of Carouge, the Musée de Carouge is primarily dedicated to preserving the town’s heritage and organizing temporary exhibitions related to local life. These exhibitions often delve into the history of Carouge and its residents. The museum actively participates in local events, such as the Printemps Carougeois and the Parcours Céramique Carougeois, and offers public guided tours and children’s workshops for each exhibition.
The Musée de Carouge showcases the city’s century-long relationship with cinema, highlighting iconic locations, pioneering figures like Alice Guy, local film productions, and the enduring Cinéma Bio, offering a vivid look at how Carouge has shaped and been shaped by the seventh art.
The exhibition is complemented by a diverse program of screenings, concerts, and workshops, allowing visitors to experience iconic films, explore Alice Guy’s world through music, and experiment with early animation techniques for a fully immersive journey into Carouge’s cinematic history and practice.

As part of the exhibition Carouge s’aventure dans le cinéma, the Musée de Carouge invites children to a workshop to create their own phenakistiscope. Led by artist Myriam Abourousse, participants will design an animated disc that brings their drawings to life, offering a fun and hands-on introduction to the techniques of early animation.
