Hazara Blues: A Graphic Novel Conversation

Reza Sahibdad, author born in 1980 in Mashhad and a member of the Hazara community, and illustrator Yann Damezin bring the graphic novel to life through testimony and images.

This conversation examines Sahibdad’s migratory journey from Iran/Afghanistan as a Hazara, addressing exclusion, racial prejudice, camp settlements around Stalingrad and his asylum claim. Through illustrated testimony, it explores identity, belonging and the role of graphic narrative in documenting migration and exposing systemic racism.

Noetic, an association specialising in video game education and awareness, works on digital literacy and youth wellbeing related to gaming.

This interactive afternoon explores collaborative play, presents key digital issues such as cyberbullying, online anonymity and microtransactions, and examines how gaming shapes young people’s socialisation and learning. Participants engage in discovery-based sessions and guided discussions that investigate ethical, social and educational implications of play.

Catherine Grimm, artist, leads drawing workshops that explore urban sketching and creative reinterpretation. She draws on practical studio and plein-air experience to guide participants in expressive pencil and marker techniques.

Participants will reinterpret an existing street or square using a black-and-white template, then add colour, ideas and personal style to transform the scene. Sessions examine composition, colour application and narrative through collaborative sharing and experimentation, developing individual approaches to visual storytelling and urban illustration.

A screening of the documentary Facing War, offering rare access to the inner workings of NATO as the war in Ukraine reshapes the global balance, followed by a timely debate asking: Is Europe at war? Amid Russia’s hybrid warfare, Europe’s massive rearmament and the growing fragility of Western alliances, diplomats, journalists and experts question the coherence and credibility of Europe’s political and military responses to an increasingly unstable geopolitical order.

Our Biodiversity: Memory game

This interactive memory challenge invites participants to test their memory while exploring practical ways to preserve biodiversity based on Geneva’s municipal strategy. Players match “before-and-after” images that illustrate individual and institutional actions, and each correct pair reveals concise information explaining the measure. The activity examines themes such as habitat restoration, species-friendly practices, urban greening and policy responses, helping participants understand the impact and rationale behind everyday and organisational conservation choices.
