Born in 1950, Jean-Marie Ehouzou joined Benin’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1979, serving in Algeria and Germany. He was Ambassador to Addis Ababa, accredited to Ethiopia, Kenya, Sudan, Djibouti, the African Union, and the UN Economic Commission for Africa. From 2006 to 2008, he was Benin’s Permanent Representative to the UN in New York. He served as Minister of Foreign Affairs from 2008 to 2011, and from 2012 to 2018, he was Ambassador and Representative of the African Union to the UN and WTO in Geneva. His expertise spans humanitarian, social, and economic issues, as well as human rights. With his extensive diplomatic career, Ehouzou offers insights into the geopolitical shifts in Africa and the influence of new international actors.
