Vivaldi: Lyricism in Venice

Professor Patrick Barbier, music historian and Emeritus Professor at U.C.O. d’Angers, is an Officier des Palmes académiques and author of La Venise de Vivaldi.

This lecture examines Vivaldi’s lyricism within the social and musical fabric of eighteenth‑century Venice, exploring operatic influences, performance practice, and the interplay between sacred and secular genres. Barbier investigates how Vivaldi’s theatrical and instrumental writing shaped Venetian musical identity and offers contextual readings of key works.
