The awakening of the Sound Archives #30: record playing by Janeen

DJ Janeen, originally from London and now based in Valais, invites you on a musical journey with her unique set that blends house, bass music, and US rap, enriched with fresh releases and exclusives. During the Afrosonica – Soundscapes exhibition, she will delve into the 5000 LPs from MEG’s Marco Botta collection, primarily from the 1960s and 70s. Renowned for her dynamic and groovy sets, Janeen has performed at iconic venues and prestigious international festivals like the Montreux Jazz Festival and Visions du Réel. She is also a resident DJ on the program “Métissages” on Couleur3 (RTS).

The Montreux Jazz Festival takes place for two weeks every summer in Switzerland, on the shores of Lake Geneva. Created in 1967 by Claude Nobs and directed by Mathieu Jaton since 2013, the Montreux Jazz Festival has become over the years an essential event, generating fantastic stories and legendary performances.

In its 50 years history, Montreux has hosted iconic performances by artists including Nina Simone, Miles Davis, Aretha Franklin, Ella Fitzgerald, Marvin Gaye, Prince, Leonard Cohen, David Bowie, Elton John and Stevie Wonder. Deep Purple and Prince even helped to write the legend of the place in their songs, while David Bowie and Freddie Mercury came to live in the region and record albums.

CinéTransat is a beloved summer event in Geneva that offers free open-air film screenings at Perle du Lac. From 10 July to 17 August 2025, every Thursday to Sunday, audiences can enjoy cult classics and themed evenings in a relaxed lakeside setting — picnic and deck chair encouraged!
