Drawing on feminist finance critiques and psychoanalytic theory, Maclean explores how figures like “Crypto Dad” and online subcultures like the “Sigma Male” reinforce traditional notions of masculinity, authority, and value within financial discourse. Far from disrupting the status quo, these symbolic framings often replicate the gendered exclusions of mainstream finance. Through cultural analysis of regulators, media, and meme culture, the presentation highlights how crypto’s promise of decentralisation can paradoxically reinforce existing hierarchies.

Explore Demain, in collaboration with the University of Geneva, is hosting a dialogue featuring journalist Salomé Saqué and activist Simon Berthoud on the subject of democracy. Saqué, author of “Résister,” a book addressing outrage and hope against the rise of the far-right in Europe, advocates for renewed civic engagement. They will jointly discuss revitalizing public debate, supporting independent media, and strengthening democratic and solidarity values.
