Wagner’s “Tannhäuser,” a romantic opera steeped in intense inner conflicts, returns to Geneva. This new production, co-produced with the Deutsche Oper Berlin, is conducted by Mark Elder and directed by Michael Thalheimer. The narrative contrasts the sensual love of Venus with Elisabeth’s noble Christian love, tracking the hero’s journey toward redemption through these dualities. Henrik Ahr’s set design and Barbara Drosihn’s costumes enhance this vision. Daniel Johansson takes the lead as Tannhäuser, joined by Jennifer Davis as Elisabeth and Victoria Karkacheva as Venus. The Opera also features the exceptional talents of the Chorus and the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande, pivotal to this Wagnerian lyrical adventure.
