Rachel Marks: Planáō Germinatio

The Forum Meyrin is hosting American artist Rachel Marks for a residency where her studio becomes a dynamic exhibition and interactive space. Together with the audience, she breathes new life into abandoned books and papers. Central to her work is the tree, a symbol that delves into the relationship between humans and their environment.

It begins by examining the traditional representation of women in art, from the funerary sculptures of the Tang dynasty to portraits of mature wives from the Qing dynasty. The exhibition also looks at the idealized image of the Chinese woman in Europe, spread through export porcelain and chinoiseries by artists like Watteau and Boucher. It further addresses themes such as marriage, female ornaments, foot binding, and protective female deities, concluding with the stories of Chinese women artists, from Dong Xiaowan to Peng Wei. The exhibition includes contributions from the Musée Ariana, the Museum of Art and History, the Ethnography Museum of Geneva, and the Rietberg Museum of Zurich.

26 March – 25 May

The exhibition “More Poetry is Needed” unites four artists who use text as both poetic and visual material: Laure Marville, Hadrien Dussoix, Robert Montgomery, and Peter Wüthrich. It conveys an urgent call for poetry. Laure Marville’s vibrant works bring the voices of Corinna Bille and Alice Rivaz to life as flags, while Hadrien Dussoix channels the spirit of rock. Robert Montgomery captures the committed poetry of the post-modern era and Peter Wüthrich illustrates how literature can serve as an antidote. In Geneva, Wüthrich engages with passersby by photographing them with an open book on their back, continuing his series “Angels of the World.”

The exhibition invites you on a journey through anatomical models, casts, waxworks, and illustrated antique books. Modern tools like microscopy, medical imaging, and 3D printing uncover the inner workings of organs, currently utilized by medical students at the University of Geneva. This is a collaboration with the University of Geneva. Some images may not be suitable for younger or sensitive audiences.

24 June 2024 – 29 June 2026

Explore Geneva’s history in and around the Temple de la Fusterie through three insightful elements. Discover Jean Stern’s photomontage “Déplié,” a contemporary recreation of Konrad Witz’s “The Miraculous Draught of Fish.” Delve into historical panels that trace the story of the Reformation and the temple itself. Lastly, engage with “Un tableau mais pas que. La Pêche miraculeuse de Konrad Witz” by Anouk Dunant Gonzenbach, a book that revisits the artwork and its historical context. This project is spearheaded by the Protestant Church of Geneva in collaboration with various partners.

Explore a curated selection of works by Michel Grillet, a Swiss artist born in Geneva, at the MAH. Grillet delves into landscape traditions, notably influenced by Japanese art. His drawings, often showcased in series, are marked by a simplicity and precision reminiscent of haiku poetry. This exhibition engages in a conversation with the museum’s collection, highlighting connections with Swiss masters such as Alexandre Calame and Ferdinand Hodler.
