Drawing on feminist finance critiques and psychoanalytic theory, Maclean explores how figures like “Crypto Dad” and online subcultures like the “Sigma Male” reinforce traditional notions of masculinity, authority, and value within financial discourse. Far from disrupting the status quo, these symbolic framings often replicate the gendered exclusions of mainstream finance. Through cultural analysis of regulators, media, and meme culture, the presentation highlights how crypto’s promise of decentralisation can paradoxically reinforce existing hierarchies.
