Cécile Van den Avenne and Yewhe Yeton present a musical lecture titled “Mede mi wa” (We Are Humans), delving into recordings of African soldiers from the 1931 Colonial Exhibition. Blending Hounsou’s singing with archived music, the project fuses social research and musical creation, challenging stagnant heritage views and examining production contexts. Yewhe Yeton has composed four pieces inspired by these archives, fostering a dialogue between past and present. This event is part of the “Literate Figures of Oral Worlds” symposium organized by UNIGE and MEG.
