L’Escalade at the MIR

The International Museum of the Reformation (MIR) invites you to rediscover the history of the Escalade with a guided tour. Relive the events of the night of December 11 to 12, 1602, and delve into the iconic figures of that era. Discover fascinating tidbits like the fact that Mère Royaume was a French Protestant refugee, Théodore de Bèze penned playful poems, and Queen Elizabeth I of England initiated a fundraising campaign to support Geneva after the attack.

The exhibition, produced in collaboration with the Société des Arts of Geneva, is housed in the Crosnier and Saint-Ours rooms. A monograph will accompany this project.

Xippas Gallery in Geneva is hosting, for the first time, a solo exhibition dedicated to the Uruguayan artist José Gamarra. The anthological exhibition, Whispers in the Forest, spans fifty years of his work and presents an exceptional selection of paintings and drawings, curated by Manuel Neves

1 – 24 December

The Library of Geneva is hosting an exhibition on the Escalade, highlighting the story of this iconic celebration when the people of Geneva defended against Savoyard troops on the night of December 11-12, 1602. Explore the historical and legendary aspects of this significant event through objects and traditions such as torches, cannons, and chocolate cauldrons. Organized in collaboration with the Compagnie de 1602, the exhibition offers an insightful dive into local history.

2 – 27 December

The Art, Play & Society Biennale returns to Le Commun with “Side Quest for the Real.” Organized by Christian Bili and Samuel Wagen-Magnon, this second edition explores social themes through Live Action Role-Playing (LARP). The exhibition features original works complemented by screenings, workshops, lectures, and discussions with artists and researchers. Guided tours and interactive workshops offer an immersive experience into LARP practices. The event encourages the public to explore, reflect, and engage in playful discovery.

17 September – 8 December

Olivier Varenne introduces the first solo exhibition of French artist Benoît Mazzer. Mazzer’s paintings provide an immersive experience, balancing wonder and unease, as colors, shapes, and figures reveal expansive inner landscapes.
