Geopolitics: The New Distribution of Power in Africa

Born in 1950, Jean-Marie Ehouzou joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Benin in 1979. He served in Algeria and the Federal Republic of Germany and was also the Ambassador of Benin to Addis Ababa, accredited to Ethiopia, Kenya, Sudan, and Djibouti, as well as to the African Union Commission and the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa. From 2006 to 2008, he was appointed Permanent Representative of Benin to the United Nations in New York. From 2008 to 2011, he held the position of Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation, African Integration, and Francophonie of Benin. Between 2012 and 2018, he served as Ambassador and Representative of the African Union to the specialized agencies of the United Nations and the World Trade Organization in Geneva.

His expertise spans humanitarian, social, and economic issues as well as human rights. What are the challenges behind economic power struggles, spheres of influence, and shifting alliances? His personal vision, shaped throughout his distinguished diplomatic career, will provide a deeper understanding of the geopolitical transformations currently shaking Africa with the involvement of new international actors.
